ROSETONES
what power supply does the ROSETONES need?
a standard 9VDC center-negative supply with at least 200mA. the power input has built-in reverse polarity and over-voltage protection
how do the sens and feedback controls interact?
they work as a pair. higher feedback increases sustain and allows the resonators to bloom with less input energy. when feedback is high, you can lower sens. higher sens with lower feedback gives a shorter, more controlled response that requires a stronger input signal to excite. start by setting both to noon and adjust from there
what does the octave slider do? does it change what notes get detected?
the octave slider only changes the register where the resonators sound. it doesn't affect note detection. ROSETONES always detects notes across its full tracking range (C2–B5) regardless of the slider position. this lets you drive the resonators with a bass line while they voice into a higher octave, or play high chords while the resonators sound lower
can I use ROSETONES in mono?
yes. connect to IN L and OUT L only. in stereo, lower notes are panned left and higher notes right. that stereo imaging collapses to mono when using a single output
can I use ROSETONES with synthesizers or line-level gear?
yes. input gain mode is selectable at boot. cycle through instrument (low), instrument, and line level modes to match your source. the input is compatible with both 1/4" TS instrument and line level signals
can ROSETONES work without any audio input?
yes. with no audio input connected, ROSETONES requires MIDI note messages to trigger the resonators. higher sens and feedback settings allow the resonators to sustain and bloom from those MIDI triggers, producing a drone voice shaped by octave, tone, and modulation
what MIDI adapter does ROSETONES use?
a 3.5mm type B MIDI adapter. type A looks identical but is wired differently and won't work. this is the most common MIDI connection issue. if you're unsure which type you have, contact us
how do I change the MIDI channel?
hold the bypass footswitch while powering on and continue holding until the purple bypass LED starts blinking. then send any MIDI CC message on your desired channel. the LED stops blinking and the pedal saves that channel. ROSETONES defaults to MIDI channel 1
how do I save and load presets via MIDI?
ROSETONES has 9 onboard preset slots. to save: dial in your sound, then send MIDI program change #11–19 (slot 1 = PC#11, slot 9 = PC#19). to load: send program change #1–9. note that a factory reset restores settings but does not erase saved presets
what are the secondary controls and how do I access them?
hold the modulation mode button for 1 second until the LEDs blink. while continuing to hold, adjust mix (synth output level), tone (glide time between octave positions), or the octave slider (interval, which adds a fixed pitch offset of unison through major 7th to all resonators). settings are saved between power cycles
what bypass modes are available?
analog buffered bypass (dry signal is fully analog when bypassed) or DSP trails (effect tails continue after bypass). to switch, apply power while holding the modulation mode button for 1 second, select your bypass mode, then power cycle to save
how do I do a factory reset?
set all knobs and the octave slider to minimum, then apply power while holding the modulation mode button for 2 seconds. the CHORUS and VIBRATO LEDs will blink rapidly to confirm. this restores synth level, glide time, interval, and boot configurations. saved presets are not affected
SOLARFAZE
what power supply does the SOLARFAZE need?
a standard 9VDC center-negative supply with at least 200mA, the same standard used by most guitar pedals. do not use 12VDC or higher
how does the multiband saturation work?
three bands (bass 20Hz–440Hz, mid 150Hz–2.4kHz, and treb 2kHz–30kHz) each have their own soft-saturating waveshaper with oversampling. each band's frequency range is continuously sweepable, not fixed. hold the gain button while moving the level control to sweep a band's center frequency. crossover points can also be adjusted via MIDI CC
can the bands be used independently, or do all three always run?
all three bands are always active, but you can effectively solo a band by setting the other two gain controls to minimum. the waveshapers on those bands will pass signal cleanly at zero gain
what's the signal flow: does saturation happen before or after the mix control?
the three saturated bands are summed and then blended against the dry signal via the mix control. at noon, you're hearing an equal blend of dry and saturated signal. fully clockwise is fully wet
does the SOLARFAZE have MIDI?
yes. the SOLARFAZE has full MIDI implementation including CC control of every parameter and MIDI program change for preset recall. connect via a 3.5mm type B TRS adapter
what type of bypass does the SOLARFAZE have?
the SOLARFAZE offers two bypass modes: analog buffered bypass, where the dry signal remains fully analog when bypassed, and DSP bypass, which eliminates the volume drop when engaging the effect
can I use the SOLARFAZE with a synthesizer?
yes. the SOLARFAZE works at both instrument and line level
PARAGRAPHS II
can I use an expression pedal with the PARAGRAPHS II?
yes. use a standard expression pedal with a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" TRS adapter. the moog ep-3 is confirmed compatible. the CV/exp jack is documented on page 13 of the user manual at docs.vongon.com/paragraphsii.pdf
can I use modular CV to control the filter?
yes. the CV/exp input accepts 0–3.3v and is protected with clamping diodes for voltages within approximately ±10v, making it safe with standard eurorack CV signals
does the LFO sync to MIDI clock?
the LFO doesn't sync to MIDI clock. it's designed for smooth continuous motion. however, the envelope can be triggered externally via MIDI CC#89, enabling tempo-synced filter effects from a daw, drum machine, or sequencer
there's a volume drop when I engage the PARAGRAPHS II. is that normal?
yes. output level can be adjusted by holding the env mode button and turning the mix control, as documented on page 15 of the manual
the LFO doesn't seem to be doing anything. what's the zero position?
the LFO depth knob is bipolar. the zero-modulation position is at noon (12:00), not fully counter-clockwise. moving either direction from center activates stereo panning modulation
what's different between the PARAGRAPHS II and the original paragraphs (v1)?
the PARAGRAPHS II adds stereo I/O, an envelope follower mode, improved signal-to-noise ratio, and full MIDI implementation. the v1 has a fully analog signal path that works beautifully with distorted sources, but has a higher noise floor and no follower mode
can the PARAGRAPHS II replace the onset pedal for swell effects?
yes. set the envelope to follower mode with a slow rise and a very short fall
is the PARAGRAPHS II fully digital?
yes, 48kHz/24-bit, including the dry path when engaged. latency is approximately 2ms. when bypassed, it provides an analog buffered bypass with a brief volume dip to prevent click, which is normal
REPLAY
how do I update the REPLAY firmware?
open the web app at replay.vongon.com in google chrome (chrome is required). a yellow badge appears when an update is available. click the version indicator to begin. the unit will reboot into DFU mode with no leds lit, which is normal. if the device doesn't appear in the connection popup, unplug everything, refresh, and retry. the latest firmware is v1.3
how do I back up my presets?
use the web app at replay.vongon.com. full instructions are at replay.vongon.com/help#backup-presets
presets show 4 flashing lights and won't load. what's happening?
preset slots are blank by default, so 4 flashing lights on a fresh unit is normal. if presets you've saved are flashing and won't load, they were likely saved on an incompatible firmware version. downgrade to the firmware version they were saved on, back them up via the web app, then update to the latest firmware and reload. full instructions at replay.vongon.com/help#backup-presets
some keys aren't responding or require extra pressure. what should I do?
key switches can wiggle loose in shipping. pull the non-functioning switch and swap it with a working one to diagnose. if the socket itself is the issue, follow the keybed repair guide at docs.vongon.com/replay_keybed_repair.pdf. it's partial disassembly only, no soldering required, and it doesn't void the warranty. contact us if you need a replacement switch
my micro USB connector broke. can it be repaired?
yes. this is a known manufacturing defect on first-batch units and is repaired at no cost with proof of purchase (you pay inbound shipping, we cover the repair and return). you can also proactively upgrade to USB-C, either as a diy kit or by sending the unit in. all REPLAY units shipping mid-2025 and later include USB-C. see the upgrade guide at docs.vongon.com/replay_usbc_upgrade.pdf
can I use the REPLAY as a MIDI controller only, without audio?
yes. unplug the audio output or reduce the master volume. note: USB audio is not supported. the USB port is for MIDI and firmware only
how do I set the MIDI channel?
configure it in the web app at replay.vongon.com, or use MIDI channel learn mode: hold alt while powering on, the octave leds blink, then send a MIDI message on your desired channel. the REPLAY defaults to MIDI channel 1
there are hanging or stuck notes. how do I fix it?
common causes: (1) a MIDI feedback loop, where your daw is set to MIDI input "all," routing REPLAY output back to REPLAY input. set the daw input to a specific external controller. (2) CC#64 (sustain) accidentally triggered. power cycle to clear. (3) firmware before v1.3 had dropped note issues. update to the latest firmware
does the REPLAY output MIDI clock?
not currently. it accepts MIDI clock input but generating and outputting clock is on the development backlog
how do I access the glide function?
hold alt and adjust the LFO delay knob. glide can also be controlled via CC#105
what power does the REPLAY require?
a 9VDC center-negative power supply with at least 200–400mA, or power via USB from a computer, power adapter, or power bank. a 9v power supply and USB cable are included
there's no sound coming out. what should I check first?
check the OSC toggle. the middle position turns the oscillator off. this is the most common cause of no-sound reports
does the REPLAY support MPE?
MPE isn't currently supported. configure MPE controllers to standard MIDI mode for compatibility
POLYPHRASE
what firmware version is current, and how do I update it?
the current firmware is v2.3, downloadable from docs.vongon.com/VONGON_POLYPHRASE_V2.3.zip. update by playing the firmware WAV file into the pedal's audio input. no computer needed, just a phone or audio player. to confirm your version, count the trig LED blinks at power-up: 3 blinks = v2.3
my MIDI clock sync isn't working. what should I check?
first, confirm you're using a type B TRS adapter. type A looks identical but is wired differently and won't work. a reliable type B adapter is the 1010music adapter. then confirm MIDI clock is enabled by sending CC #17 with a value of 0–63 (this setting persists between power cycles and may have been accidentally disabled). firmware v2.3 significantly improves clock stability
there's pitch warbling when MIDI clock changes tempo. is that normal?
yes. a brief pitch shift as the delay adjusts to the new tempo is expected and confirms MIDI is working correctly. allow about 10 seconds for the pedal to settle into a new clock rate
the delay time is defaulting to the fastest setting or acting erratic. what's wrong?
this is most likely a worn slider. the carbon track can fail over time. symptoms include delay time defaulting to fastest on power-up, random pitch modulation even with depth at noon, or LFO appearing stuck. we can repair it in-shop, or replacement sliders are available (bourns pta4553-2015dpb502 from mouser or digi-key). protect sliders from physical force during transport and bubble wrap the unit when shipping
can I use the POLYPHRASE with synthesizers or line-level gear?
yes. hold the echo style button while powering on until the echo styles start blinking, then tap to cycle to line level mode. power cycle to save
how do I enable trails mode?
on firmware v2.3: hold the trig function button while powering on until an LED blinks — the blinking LED shows your current mode (tap tempo = no trails, infinite = trails). press once to toggle, then power cycle to save
can I use the POLYPHRASE in mono?
yes. plug into in l and out l only. both delay lines stack to mono. the right I/O jacks then function as an external effects loop for the delay signal, useful for inserting reverb, pitch shifting, etc. into the feedback path
how do I clear the buffer / reset the infinite loop?
hold the bypass switch for 3 seconds until the LED blinks
can I store presets without saving delay time?
presets always store delay time and this can't be disabled in the standard firmware. as a workaround, an external MIDI controller (like the morningstar mc8 or disaster area dmc) can be configured to manage presets and send CC overrides for delay time
ULTRASHEER
what power supply does the ULTRASHEER need?
a standard 9VDC center-negative supply (the same standard as most guitar pedals), drawing up to 200mA. do not use 12VDC or higher, as it will damage the unit and is not covered under warranty
there's a red pulsing light visible through the input jack. is something wrong?
not at all. that's a normal processor heartbeat LED confirming the pedal is working correctly. if it's distracting, a small piece of black electrical tape inside the pedal over the LED will block it
can I use the ULTRASHEER with synthesizers or line-level gear?
the ULTRASHEER is optimized for instrument level and clips around 3.2–3.3 dBu. hot synthesizer or mixer signals may clip harshly. a reamp box can bring line-level signals down to instrument level before the pedal. the clipping won't damage the unit
does the ULTRASHEER have MIDI?
the ULTRASHEER doesn't have MIDI, and there are no hardware or firmware modifications available to add it
what type of bypass does the ULTRASHEER have?
when trails mode is off, the dry signal is fully analog with a brief volume dip on bypass, which is normal. when trails is on, the signal passes through the DSP converters and dry is no longer purely analog
what if my ULTRASHEER isn't powering on or passing signal?
if the unit powers on but passes no audio, the main circuit board likely needs replacement. if using incorrect voltage (12VDC, 18VDC) caused the failure, this is not covered under warranty. contact us, as known component failures can often be repaired diy or in-shop
